Frequently Asked Questions for Window & Door Dealers

Summit Automation has trained and certified more than 650 installers throughout the United States and internationally. Our growing network of Certified Installers provides professional installation and service for Summit Automation door and window automation systems. Contact us to locate a Certified Installer serving your area.

For a typical installation using a standard Summit Automation motor for a medium sized door, the automation system is approximately $4,500, plus installation.  Projects involving steel, concrete, unusual structural conditions, or other installation complexities may require specialized equipment and additional labor, which can increase the total cost.  As we offer a large number of accessories to enhance your automation experience, your sales person can assist you further.

Contact Summit Automation or a Certified Installer for pricing based on the specific door system and project conditions.

Yes. Summit Automation systems can be installed after the doors are in place, and this is a normal part of the installation sequence. In some projects, installers may recommend pre-wiring for automation before the doors are installed or before the walls are closed. Pre-wiring can simplify future automation installations and reduce the need to modify finished walls.

If a Customer is interested in door automation but isn’t ready to make the investment, we recommend pre-wiring the multi-slide opening with a Summit Automation pre-wire kit.

Pre-wiring during construction makes it significantly easier and less expensive to add automation later. Once drywall and other finishes are complete, adding the necessary wiring can require opening and repairing finished surfaces. Depending on the project, pre-wiring can reduce a future automation installation by thousands of dollars compared with retrofitting a home that was not prepared for automation.  Our pre-wire kits are $500, plus installation, and you receive a credit against the motor at a later time if you order the motor.  Pre-wiring just makes perfect sense and is a great insurance policy.

Window and door dealers need an automation system they can recommend with confidence. Summit Automation designs its systems around what we call the 4 Rs: Relevance, Recency, Reliability, and Repeatability.

Relevance: The system must address a real Customer need or desire.

Recency: The technology must reflect current innovation and capabilities.

Reliability: When the Customer activates the system, it should operate as expected every time.

Repeatability: The door or window should open and close smoothly and consistently, cycle after cycle with exactness.

Summit Automation has spent decades refining its technology to create automation systems that are reliable, elegant, and easy to use. Our goal is for the automation to become such a natural part of everyday life that the homeowner rarely has to think about it.

Summit Automation systems can be configured for a wide range of applications, including multi-slide doors, stacking doors, pocket doors, pivot doors, sliding windows, vertical lift windows, and other large or heavy openings. The appropriate automation solution depends on the opening size, weight, configuration, and surrounding structure.  Size does not matter for our systems as we have a variety of motors to handle the weights and structure.

Automation should ideally be considered especially during the design phase and then defined during the construction planning stage, before walls are closed and before the opening is fully finished. Early planning gives dealers, builders, and installers more flexibility for motor placement, wiring, controls, and other components, while helping reduce the cost and complexity of adding automation later.  A well thought out door and window automation plan can also help the homeowner ultimately save thousands of dollars with proper planning.

Yes. Summit Automation systems are designed for practically all systems but especially for large, heavy, and complex door and window applications. The motor and system configuration are selected based on factors such as panel weight, opening size, door configuration, and structural conditions to provide smooth, reliable operation.  No longer are you held back from going big, in fact the bigger the better – more view, less building materials help bring the indoor/outdoor together.

Summit Automation supports dealers with product guidance, technical assistance, installation resources, and access to a network of trained and certified installers.
