Q2 Update: Now is the Time to Spec for Renovations, Exciting Updates Coming Soon!
Spring is here, which means fresh air season is officially upon us, the time of year when the doors and windows stay open for much of the day. This is also a prime time of year for renovations, and planning a thoughtful redesign of your windows and doors can make a big difference in how your clients interact with their spaces.
For many projects, opening and closing windows and doors manually can create real friction, especially as doors get heavier and windows become harder to reach. Many tilt-up windows use gas struts, which need significant force to engage. That means reaching over a 24-inch counter and pushing the panel another foot before the struts will even engage. Closing is just as awkward, often requiring a hook tool and significant downward force. Adding a system from Summit Automation means your clients can press a button or use a voice command, and it moves on its own.
Doors continue to get larger and heavier, with panels reaching 25 feet high and 5–10 feet wide. With automation, there are no size or weight limits; our motors can handle even the biggest doors imaginable. If you’re speccing multi-slide doors, plan for a 10-inch stud bay on one side of the opening for the motor. For pocket sliding doors, be sure to include an additional 10 inches of space in one pocket. One motor handles any size door system, whether stacking to one side or bi-parting in the middle.
If you’re working on a renovation that involves any door or window opening, reach out to Summit Automation for an estimate. Whether you’re designing a dramatic pivot entry, a disappearing pocket door, or a pass-through kitchen window, we have systems built for practically every application and every scale.
We’ve had an incredible quarter and are excited about what’s ahead. We have some innovative projects coming up that we’ll be announcing on social media soon. You can find us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, or X.

The Backyard is Opening; the Doors Should Too
Spring is here, which means summer is knocking at the door. The arrival of summer heralds the increased use of one space in particular: the outdoors.
Whether that looks like grilling on the patio or yard games on the lawn, everyone wants to be outdoors. The grill comes out, the patio furniture is uncovered, and people start planning for backyard barbecues. During times like these, the door between the kitchen and the back of the house becomes a source of friction. Someone has to prop it open or play doorman whenever there’s food or trays of drinks to be brought from the patio to inside, or vice versa. The house was never designed for the two spaces to be shared, but adding an automation system to the doors can change that and create a better flow between the indoors and outside.
